The Encaustic Technique
The encaustic wax painting is at least 2500 years old and was practised by the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. It is a very durable art form. You use wax with a high portion of  beeswax because of melting. Tools are irons, brushes, iron palettes, always heatable, to bring the melting wax to a special kind of  paper, glass,  wood, non-absorbent cards and even fabrics. Only using the heatable iron, it is possible to create landscapes with trees, flowers, mountains, water like sees and rivers. It is unbelivable that you can paint flowers in a vase with the firstlooking heavy  moving iron. Colours of encaustic paintings are very brilliant, shining and longliving without bleaching, that is the advantage of the wax. Today, comparing with 2500 years ago, there are a lot of modern tools and materials to paint with. Encaustic- Technique is not as known as techniques like aquarell or acryl, but it's starting to get more and more friends. In Germany exists an Encaustic- Art-Society which takes care of making this art public,  of exhibitions and the Academie.
